“Tell me about your twin.” I traced circles over Lucas’s bare chest. It was the early hours of the morning and I’d need to get up soon, but for now, I reveled in the touch of our skin and the satisfied ache in my body.

He gazed down at me. “He was a real asshole. Even growing up, he was a bully, always trying to push me around, along with everyone else. We weren’t very alike. We hung out with different friends.” His brow furrowed. “I can’t believe she rejected me and chose him instead.”

I reached up and smoothed his brow, and he smiled. “Do you think your mate chose him because he was destined to be the next alpha? Or did he bully her into it?”

“I’ll never know.” He sighed. His gaze lifted to the door. “Well, shit.” Lucas chuckled and pulled the blanket over us just as my bedroom door opened.

“Oh! I’m so sorry, my lord, mistress.” My new maid stumbled through the entrance with my breakfast tray in hand, her cheeks flaring a bright pink.

I laughed. “It’s okay, Willow. Just set the tray on the table, please.”

“Yes, mistress.” The young blond hurried across the room, eyes averted, set down the tray and scurried back out the door. She was polite and sweet. So much so that I wondered how on earth she ended up on staff here. I posed the question to Lucas.

“She’s not as sweet as she looks. Don’t let her fool you,” he said. “She’s Kevin’s baby sister.”

Kevin? “The bear shifter?”

Lucas nodded. “She’s a bear too.”

“Wow. I never would have guessed.” I sighed, not wanting to get out of bed. “Samuel will murder me if I’m late, won’t he?”

“He takes everything seriously, so I’d say yes.” Lucas smacked my ass and I yelped. “Better get up.”

I groaned but rolled off him and planted my feet on the floor. I’d asked for this, I reminded myself. This grueling training was what I wanted—needed. It would get worse next week when I started in the gym with Cade.

“Aren’t you getting up?” I eyed Lucas.

“Yeah. After I finish enjoying the view.” His words came out in a rumble.

I rolled my eyes but stood and stretched, giving him a fantastic view from all angles and was rewarded with a frustrated growl.

“You fucking tease.” He reached for me, and I danced out of the way. “Get that ass back in bed.”

I laughed. “Not a chance. I have to eat, shower, and get this ass downstairs in less than thirty minutes.” I placed my hands on my hips. “You need to get out. Right now.”

His eyes flashed with gold light, and he bared his teeth. I pointed to the door. “Out. Now.”

He grumbled and rolled away. “You’re killing me, baby.” Tumbling off, he rounded the bed and caught me up in his arms. The kiss he planted on my lips was deliciously sensual. “I’ll see you later. More gun practice.”

Lucas released me and exited, not bothering to retrieve his clothes. I stared after him.
